Security as a fundamental principal
Security is and always will be a critical component of the Recipeasy system. Your recipes are what distinguish you from your competitors. They are the livelihood of your business. They may even be cherished family recipes past down many generations. Keeping them safe should be a priority and a key component of daily operations. It’s also important to understand that security is a relative term. It would be naïve to assume Recipeasy or any other commuter system is not hackable or could fall into a disgruntled employee’s hands. When deciding if Recipeasy is right for you, It’s important to look at your current procedures and identify security gaps. Ask yourself how could a disgruntled employee get a copy of your recipe today? Are they so well trained, they could recreate it on their own, or worse, sell it to your competitor? Next, look at the security Recipeasy offers (below) then determine what’s best for your company.
How is your Recipeasy data protected in the cloud?
Recipeasy stores all its data using industry standard techniques on Amazon Web Services. No passwords are stored in plain text and the data is encrypted during transit. No Recipeasy personal has direct access to your recipes. If a situation arrises where you need support to gain access to your recipes (for training purposes for example), support can initiate a screen sharing session and you can voluntarily share your iPad’s screen. Alternatively, you can create a temporary password to allow one-time access into your account. The point is that Recipeasy personal will not have access to your password or recipes unless you voluntary supply it. There are no backdoors. Disclaimer: Support does have access to the underlining Recipeasy database for maintenance purposes, but it would take a great deal of work to reverse engineer a recipe from the underlining data structure. See more below about NDAs.
What about security at the employee level?
Recipeasy allows for the creation of security groups and employee PINs to restrict which employees can run which recipes. Additionally, Recipeasy, by its nature, makes it much harder for an employee to run off with the recipe compared to a written recipe or recipe card. With a written recipe, a disgruntled employee can steel a recipe as fast as they can snap a single picture on their cell phone. With Recipeasy, the user only sees one step at a time and even if the employee took pictures of every step, to get the ingredient weights, they would have to be snapping the pictures while the recipe is being made and ingredients are being weighed, then backwards calculate all the individual weights. Furthermore, because Recipeasy uses a graphical digital indicator when measuring ingredients and not numerical values like number of cups our pounds, even an experienced employee may find it difficult to recreate the recipe outside of the Recipeasy system.
What if the iPad falls into the wrong hands?
Recipe steps that weigh ingredients will not run without the bluetooth scale that’s paired with the Recipeasy iPad. Without the scale, the stolen iPad would be all but useless. Recipes are stored on the iPad in a way that prevents the data from being copied over when the iPad is backed up, so there should be no additional copies of your sensitive data floating around. Additionally, support can disassociate devices from your account which removes your data from those devices. There are also free Apple tools and other paid solutions through third party providers which allow you to remotely lock and wipe any stolen iPad you own.
Does Recipeasy sign Nondisclosure Agreements?
Absolutely! We know trust is earned and developed over time. Recipeasy management is more than happy to provide an NDA for all parties to sign.
